More living space for your growing family?
The office you've always dreamed of?
A 'wow-factor' kitchen extension that doubles as that ultimate entertainment zone?
.....Or a loft conversion that will give you that much-needed extra bedroom?
Whatever your plans, making changes to your home is so exciting!
In this article, local architect Laura - founder of Ashworth Architects - answers some common questions about architects and explains how an architect can help you make your extensions, remodel or renovation project a big success.
Why would a homeowner hire an architect?
Homeowners have lots of different motivations for changing their homes. It's a fantastic opportunity to breathe life into a space - and create the functionality and lifestyle you've always dreamed of. However, no one said it's easy. From building regulations to finding the right builder, there is a lot to think about - which can give homeowners a headache.
Despite it not being easy, as an architect, I believe that homeowners can have it stress-free, and enjoy the process - with the help of the right architect.
But aren't architects just for big projects - with big budgets?
Grand Designs would have you believe so! But this is a myth. Of course, an architect has a cost - but their keen eye (their trained eye!) is about delivering maximum value and impact for your space and budget - whether that's simply adding a utility room to your busy kitchen or an ambitious project like a two-storey extension.
Can't my builder do the plans for my extension?
Some builders may draw up plans - and you can also hire a draughtsman to do technical drawings.
This may seem 'cheaper' - but as architects are qualified and regulated, we bring expertise in building safety, regulations and foreseeing any (sometimes costly) issues. We can also work with your chosen builder - or help you get accurate quotes from builders.
Will an architect take over my project? I'm specific about what I want!
At Ashworth Architects, we're all about working with you - to get the best outcome for you. While we're brimming with advice on how to make the most out of your space (and budget), we're also very happy to fully support your vision. It's your home, it's completely up to you.
Can an architect help us with planning permission?
Absolutely! We offer a service that takes you through the process, and we apply on your behalf. It's a big weight off.
How do we learn more?
We offer free initial consultations - to chat about your project.
